Difference between Summary and Theme

A summary is a short and objective narration of the main passage. It is the short version of the main content. It focuses on main points and omits unnecessary details. It doesn’t give any analysis or interpretation.

On the contrary, a theme is the central idea or underlying message of the literary work. It gives analysis and explanation of the text. It also presents author’s intention. Love, universal human experience, social issues, moral dilemmas are often themes of different literary texts. The message  we learn from a text is the theme of the text.
